Throwback Thursday with The Teaching Tribune!

I have to let everyone know about my newest indulgence! I splurged on a pair of Tieks! I did! I did! I treated myself to an additional Mother's Day present! I am here to let you know about my amazing purchase!  I have about 6 different pairs of black flats that I have picked up here and there. My latest faves are from Payless so I am not one to spend a significant amount of money on my shoes.

Let me first start out by saying that before blogging, I had never heard of Tieks. I did not see them on Oprah's favorite things. I have however, read wonderful things about them from teachers across the U.S. who are thanking their Tieks after a long day on their feet. I am so glad that I took the plunge and got myself a pair!

So, first things first. Your Tieks will arrive in BEAUTIFUL box! The great thing about these shoes is that they fold into themselves making it easy to carry them with you or pack them to travel with.

Look how cute the box is with a HAND WRITTEN card! How nice is that?!?! Below is a closeup of how the shoes fold and fit into the box.

I wear a size 10 ever since I gave birth to my beautiful trio! I do not have dainty, tiny feet. In fact, my feet are big and like to be COMFORTABLE! When I took out my shoes, the smell of a rich and creamy leather tickled my nose. It reminded me of that "new car" smell when you are lucky enough to get a new car with leather seats! I LOVE THAT SMELL! I couldn't wait to have my feet encased in that love! I slid my naked foot into my new Tieks and was greeted by a friendly hug. That is what I need to call it. The shoe hugged my foot like an old friend! A caring, loving, friend! I wore them to work today and had not one problem! Not one bandaid in the back on the heal. Not one wish for my little puppies to escape the confines of their fashionable prison - not one! In fact, I couldn't stop looking at them and admiring them! I wish I had gotten one of their AMAZING colors though! I played it safe with black because I know I will wear them the most, but I would love to get a hot color to highlight an all black outfit! I know my students would love that as much as I would!

Here is a pic of my feet in my new Tieks!

Here is a link to their website so you too can drool over the enticing kaleidoscope of colors offered by Tieks! I hope they fit your feet as well as they do mine :)

  2. I've been going back and forth about buying a pair...I have one question. Do they support your feet through your teaching day?? I'm a K teacher and I'm on my feet all day. I usually buy cheap Payless Shoes and they wear out so quickly. :)

    1. Hi Leah,
Your feet will thank you! These do not wear out at all. They are all leather and fit like a glove. It is a big investment I know, but totally worth it! The hard part is picking out the color you want the most! There are so many!

    2. They are really great but make sure to buy socks for these shoes. If I don't wear socks with them I get blisters. I've had mine since March 2016 and so far love them. I'm a college student majoring art education and am always walking across campus for classes or in classroom at one of the schools Ingersoll town student teaching. Something I love about these flats is that they are waterproof which I can not say any of my other flats are like that.

Since having them the soles do show a little bit of wear because they happen to be my favorite shoes, but so far they are great and support my feet through a 10hour day without my feet hurting.

    3. Kindergarten teacher here, I had to send my back they were killing my feet and I hadn't even worn them out of my house. I wore them on carpet to make sure they fit, but they never felt comfortable.

  3. I know!!! The practical part of me knows I should get a black pair because they go with everything but the fun part of me wants a wild color that stands out like red or blue!!! LOL! Thanks!

    1. I teach, and I wear a lot of black. I bought the cardinal red. They actually have become my go to shoe. They look amazing with just about everything. That pop of color really brightens up your outfit and your day.
My second pair is gold. Even though it's more traditionally neutral, I still, wear the red more often.
You just can't go wrong with Tieks. :)

  4. Arch support? I usually only get expensive shoes and wear them to shreds. I need arch support! I hate pinched toes. I have narrow feet, but my favorite shoes are danskos with buckles or keens with adjustable straps. Will these support my arches, stay on my feet, and not pinch my toes?
    Thanks

    1. HI J Bird! I can only account for the type of shoes that fit my feet well. You should direct your questions to the tiek website at www.tiek.com. Good luck!

  5. I just bought these in ballet pink. The color works as a perfect neutral without being black or tan. They go with EVERYTHING!

    1. It's none of your business what teachers spend their money on! They aren't able to sit down because they have a room full of children to watch.

  9. Hi Michele. I too had never heard of tieks until I saw them on Pinterest. So I went to their website then just about choked when I saw the price. I have never spent that much money on a pair of shoes. For the past month I have kept going back to their website and admiring these little beauties. I am a preschool teacher and wear flats often. I will be taking a trip with my daughter in a few weeks and there will be long days with a lot of walking. I also have plantar fasciitis and am concerned about looking stylish yet protecting my delicate feet. I took the plunge and ordered the taupe. I will get mine Monday. I hope they are as comfy as I am expecting
    .
And to the anonymous person above. Preschool teachers make less money than teachers and YES, I did order them.

    1. They do exchanges, and are all about customer service! It is quick and easy to do. Because they are hand made, shows the same size can fit a little differently. They are really great about helping you out- just call and explain and they will exchange promptly.

    1. Hi Kayelbee - I haven't found that my Tieks smell at all, and I wear them constantly! I know my sister had a problem with one of her pairs, though, and was able to fix it easily with Dr. Scholls odor eaters.

    1. It is easier to put others down than to reflect on one's priorities. It says a lot more about you than the person you're putting down. People have different priorities. Maybe someone can choose to buy one good pair of shoes and forego buying any inexpensive shoes. Either way, it is all about the choices people make.

  17. like most of you here, i am also a teacher, i have been going back and forth on getting a pair of teiks and, unlike most of you I want something wild..lol since i work in a private school, i can't do anything crazy with my hair, last year i had pink stripes in it, and i ahve a thing about crazy socks, so i thought that the crazy tieks and the crazy polishes i wear, would definitely give my 4th graders a good idea Ms. Spears is not stuffy ( strict, yes, stuffy - no). BTW this is my first year in 20 years i am teaching grade school- i have taught HS for the past years and i am scared to death, any suggestions from anyone? i have been pouring over the blogs i have seen, pinterest, etc. Good luck everyone with the new school year! Kristi

  18. I ordered my third pair today, they are cardinal red.
My first pair was navy, and then I bought black. I love these shoes.
Most comfortable shoes I have ever worn.

  19. I got a pair of these, after reading so many positive reviews. l'm a Kindergarten teacher and am always looking for comfortable shoes. Like everyone, I was concerned about paying $200 for a pair of shoes, but was willing to for some comfy shoes. Unfortunately, these shoes were so uncomfortable that I've only been able to wear them a few times. I wear a size 10.5 and bought an 11, so they aren't too small in length, it's hard to explain but the toe of the shoes are not high enough, almost like they were sewn wrong. Everyone kept telling me to contact Tieks and let them know, but when I did, they just told me to stretch them by stuffing the toes with socks (which of course was the first thing I did.) Then they suggested they I try to stretch them using wooden shoe stretchers (which I've done also.) They did not offer to try to replace or fix them for me. End of story. So now I have a pretty box with shoes that don't fit for $200. I have a few friends at work that wanted to get some, but I've told them my story so they decided not to take a chance. I just wanted to let you know that not everyone is happy with their Tieks, so buyer beware!
